Sphynx Diary - Day one

 Hi all,

Sphynx is now turning into a reality. After years of multiple different designs and practical experimentation, I have finally defined the correct format. Sphynx(the product codename) is a data catalog/directory tool for data management and project development using metadata.

What is Sphynx

Sphynx creates a single data catalog (information index) for all data sources used in a company, storing the user and development objects more frequently used by companies. The metadata information in Sphynx can be used for:

- Locating data sources and validate concepts;

- Identify information inconsistencies;

- Defines information standards across the enterprise;

- Query existing data anywhere;

- Create on-demand data sets based on heterogeneous data sources;

How Sphynx was designed

Instead of complex server architectures, Sphynx approach is based on a client using any DBMS as a store. A heavy client for Windows will perform all functions required for a high-performance catalog.

Project status:

A previous test version of Sphynx was created where the essential requirements were fully tested. Now the database architecture is completed and the final codebase is being created. The first market release will be available in December, and it will cover The above DBMS platforms (Oracle, Teradata, SQL Server, Postgres and Greenplum), where the users can create the catalogs and import metadata definitions.
In addition, users of Sphynx will be able to create extra documentation inside the database structures, saving time and resources, favoring agile methodologies to produce high-quality content.

Sphynx Applications

- Enterprise Data directories;
- Data Quality management;
- Enterprise Data Query and self-service;
- Data projects development.
- Data standards governance;
- Analytics (KPI development);
- Reporting management.

Development

The first commercial version of Sphynx is based on C# with the core repository under SQL Server(2017 and up). Future versions will allow the creation of the repository in any DBMS platform.

In the next posts, I will give updates on the product progress.
